National Thank You Day
National Thank You Day falls on September 14th this year. I plan on celebrating it by carrying out random acts of kindness for as many people as I can. The company I work for is putting a lot of effort into spreading awareness about this day this year. I think it is absolutely wonderful. We should all take a little time to say a quick thank you and spread a kind word.
As a woman, I truly believe that we need to bring each other up, not tear each other down. I see the tearing down of other women as a sign of weakness. It shows that you are not confident in yourself. If you know me in person, you know that I am the first person to pay a compliment. Whether I am complimenting your killer eye makeup or letting you know that you are rocking your business, I love to bring people up.
Not every act of kindness needs to have a price tag attached. Paying someone a compliment or holding the door open for them is absolutely free. Saying “Thank You” when someone does something kind for you is free, too. Even a smile can mean so much.

I’ve noticed a growing trend of people not saying Thank You anymore. We are in a society that is so wrapped up in what we have going on in our own worlds that we forget that there are other people around us. When I hold the door open for a stranger or do something kind, I rarely get a thank you, much less an acknowledgement. I don’t do it for applause or any sort of gratitude. I do it because I was raised that way.
These things don’t cost us anything but can mean the world to someone else. You never know what is going on in their world. A kind word or smile could be exactly what they need to turn their day around.
